Magical and Sweet
Take a private tour through the snowy streets of Tallinn's Old Town during the most wonderful time of the year. Learn how Christmas was celebrated here in the past, from the medieval Catholic period, through the protestant reformation and the Russian Czarist era. How it survived under the repressions of the Soviet Union all the way to the modern era. And of course taste some Christmas delights along the way
The Best Christmas Market in Europe
While not the largest Christmas market in Europe, Tallinn's market was voted the best in Europe during the Christmas of 2018. If this is not enough to sell you on this tour, then don't worry - we offer plenty more
The heritage
Christmas has been celebrated in Tallinn for over 800 years. But the ways in which it has been celebrated has differed greatly throughout the centuries. From the large feasts and festivals of the pre-reformation Catholic era to the modest celebrations following the arrival of Protestantism and the hardships of the Livonian war, to the Russian influences of the Czarist era and more! Tallinn has seen this holiday change so much, it hard for modern people to even compare the original to the modern. But this is exactly what our tour guides will do during this tour! The tastes
Christmas is - and has been for a long time (at least among the common people) - a time to celebrate and indulge. If you so desire, we will take you to one of Tallinn's most famous cafes Maiasmokk (Sweet Tooth) to have something warm to drink (coffee, tea or maybe even something stronger) and to taste - Estonian handmade chocolates prepared on the basement level of the cafe itself. Or if you prefer, we will explore the oldest working Pharmacy in the world where gingerbread was once made and taste their special spiced wine. The faiths
Tallinn has been influenced by the Catholic, Lutheran and Orthodox churches through its history. Each of them effected the the celebration of this holiday in their own way. Come and discover how the faiths are different and similar at the same time and what this mean for the celebration of Christmas in Tallinn. The Market
And we are back to the Christmas market. The heart of the festivities in Tallinn's Old Town. While certainly not the only point of interest during the tour, it is still a great place to wander around, take in the atmosphere, browse the handicraft and the various foods and just enjoy the time of year.Vene Street and Nativity Scenes
During the Christmas period, Vene street in the heart of the Old Town, becomes a truly magical spot. It is famous for its multiple Nativity scenes dotting the street, from the opulent to the minimalist, from the lavish to the modest.Happy holidays
