The rights of women have been markedly different from those of men for centuries. These right and opportunities were affected by laws, the power at the time (The Livonia Order, the Russian Empire, etc) as well as local society and culture norms. What was acceptable at the farmhouse may not have been within the city walls. What a noble lady may have been able to permit herself may have been taboo for the daughter of a ferryman.
Understanding of femininity and womanhood have changed through the ages, but some ideas have shifted less than other. Was this for better or worse and how did it affect women's lives?
For centuries a woman's everyday attire consisted on 3 main pieces of clothing. Although changes in fabric, design, colour and decoration may have taken place, these three still remained present. Can you guess what these clothes may have been?

We mostly see history through the eyes of men. A large portion of our written history as been penned by men. But our everyday lives, culture, society and understanding of the world is affected by both men AND women. Women have always played an important role and left a mark on the world, even if their opportunities differed from those of men. On this tour we focus on women through the centuries: noble ladies, nuns, prostitutes, craftswomen, peasants and more. No subject is taboo and there will be plenty to discuss for all.
Why choose this tour?
While all locals know the of the legendary king Kalev, few know of a woman who held the same title for her strength. How did women fare in the war of independence? What did sex and marriage mean for the medieval woman? How has our understanding of female beauty changed with the times? These questions and more will be answered during the tour.
